Travelling far from home?
Few things are as exciting as travelling far from home. But make sure you are prepared!
For most countries and territories, the UK government issues a travel advice which includes a health advice. You can find the list of all countries here. Click on the country you are travelling to, and then on health.
A few things you might always want to think about. When travelling to a new location, there might be germs that your body is not familiar with. This makes it even more important to regularly wash your hands then when you’re at home in Stratford. But you might have less opportunities to find water and soap. This is when a hygiene gel like Cuticura might come in handy. This can prevent all sorts of nasty experiences, including the very common traveller's diarrhea. Just in case you do get infected, you might want to bring some Ciprofloxacin that will calm down an over-excited stomach.
When you travel across time zones, your body needs some time to adjust to the new time. Some people react to this very strongly, and jet lag can really ruin your trip. To mitigate this effect, melatonin (for example, in Circadin) in known to have a helpful effect, especially in travellers over 55 years of age.
Healthy Living with Juice Plus
The World Health Organisation reminds us that we could stay healthier for longer if we took more care of our nutrition, following a diet mainly based on fruits and vegetables and starchy foods. Everyone heard about the need to have 5 portions of fruits and vegetables every day, but many health organisations have suggested this should be even more, with 7 portions now being the minimum recommended and up to 13 portions per day being the ideal. Traditionally this has included fruit juices as one of the portions, but health professionals in the UK believe these should not be included, as juices contain large amounts of sugar.
Unfortunately not many of us consume enough fruit and vegetables, certainly not every day. Large fruit intake carries with it a large sugar intake, and large amounts of vegetables make many feel bloated and uncomfortable. Interestingly, frozen fruit and vegetables often contain more vitamins than fresh. This is because they're frozen on the day they're picked, while fresh produce can take as much as two weeks to reach our supermarket shelves.
The fruit and vegetable supplement product backed by the most scientific research is Juice Plus. The name is not that great, because it’s not actually a juice. But Juice Plus is an easy way to add good nutrition to the diet, a supplement to help achieve the maximum benefit from a diet rich in fruit and vegetables. It is only available online and will not be available on the high street. It comes in three forms:
Juice Plus Fruit Blend is created from a wholefood base of eight different fruits: apples, oranges, pineapples, peaches, cranberries, papayas, acerola cherry, dates and prunes.
Juice Plus Garden Blend is created from no less than nine different vegetables and the fibre of two grains: beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, kale, spinach, parsley, garlic and tomato, and fibre powders of oats and rice brain.
Juice Plus Berry Blend is created from nine different fruits: apples, acerola cherries, dates, oranges, peaches, plums, pineapple, papayas and cranberries.
